Tragic Discovery: Body of Missing British Hiker Found in Dolomites, Months After His Friends Remains Were Located

A British hiker’s remains, who had been reported missing in the Dolomites, have been located, according to a search team in Italy.

Aziz Ziriat, aged 36, was found in a rocky crevice on Saturday, approximately 400 meters (1,300 feet) beneath the spot where his friend, Sam Harris, 35, was previously discovered.

Both men, who hailed from London, vanished while hiking in January.

Mr. Ziriat’s body was recovered in the Passo di Conca region by specialized search teams, including a canine unit, as confirmed by Trentino Alpine and Speleological Rescue.

A spokesperson stated that rescuers “descended the cliff face below the lower edge of the slope, where the dog ultimately signaled the location of the missing man in a rocky crevice, which had been concealed by snow.”

His family was promptly notified of the tragic discovery.

Mr. Harris’s remains were found on January 8. The friends had not been seen or heard from since January 1 and failed to board their flight home on January 6.

Their last known position was near a mountain hut known as Casina Dosson, situated close to the town of Tione Di Trento, near Riva Del Garda by Lake Garda.

Palace for Life, the official charity for Crystal Palace FC, where Mr. Ziriat served as head of community engagement, expressed deep sorrow over his disappearance in a previous statement.

In describing his commitment to making a positive impact, the statement noted, “Aziz has not only made a significant impact in his role, but he was also a kind, compassionate, and generous person who spread positivity and warmth to all those he interacted with.”

Joe Stone, a university friend of Mr. Ziriat, remarked that the two were “seasoned hikers” who enjoyed venturing into remote areas, but “concerns were raised” when they did not report back for their scheduled flight home.
