Tajikistan Urges Thorough Probe into School Stabbing Linked to Ethnic Hatred in Moscow Region

The Foreign Ministry of Tajikistan summoned the Russian ambassador in Dushanbe on Wednesday to demand an unbiased investigation into the fatal stabbing of a 10-year-old student at a school near Moscow.

The victim, Kobiljon Aliyev, a fourth-grade student, was killed on Tuesday morning at Uspenskaya Secondary School located in the affluent suburban area of Gorki-2. Authorities have detained a 15-year-old student, who is suspected of carrying out the attack.

In an official statement, Tajikistan’s Foreign Ministry denounced the murder and expressed its belief that the incident was driven by “ethnic hatred.”

The ministry delivered a formal note to Russian Ambassador Semyon Grigoryev, urging Russian authorities to conduct a “fair and unbiased investigation” and hold accountable those responsible for this act.

Russian state media reported that Aliyev was a citizen of Tajikistan.

Later that day, representatives from Russia’s Foreign Ministry indicated that they were in communication with their Tajik counterparts and conveyed their condolences regarding the tragic death of the young boy.

Video clips shared through Telegram channels associated with Russian security services depicted the alleged attacker, identified by media as Timofey K., being taken into custody by police.

Another video showed the teenager, armed with a knife, asking younger students about their ethnicity after encountering them with a teacher in a school corridor.

Unverified reports suggested that images found on the phone of the suspected assailant contained “extremist quotes,” the names of far-right groups, and references to the 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings in New Zealand.

Tajikistan’s Foreign Ministry stated that it has instructed its embassy in Moscow to closely observe the investigation and maintain regular communication with Aliyev’s family.

The incident in Gorki-2 happened just a day after a ninth-grade student was arrested in St. Petersburg for stabbing and injuring a teacher during a dispute over a poor grade.
