Deer have made a return to Greenwich Park in south-east London after having been moved to Richmond Park in 2021.

According to The Royal Parks, a fresh group of eight fallow deer is now “reveling in a refurbished and expanded paddock”.

This new environment offers access to adjacent woodlands, and a Royal Parks representative noted that the natural area has been improved with wildflower planting to benefit wildlife, including birds and pollinators.

Park rangers mentioned that the newly arrived deer will be acclimatizing over the coming weeks, which may render them less visible to visitors initially.

Four years ago, Greenwich Park’s herd of fallow and red deer was transferred to Richmond Park to prevent disruptions caused by the construction and renovation of community spaces.

A few of the original deer still reside in Richmond Park to help maintain genetic diversity, while Greenwich Park has now welcomed a new population.
