Baghdatis Identifies Rising Star to Challenge Sinner and Alcaraz in Grand Slam Competitions

The finalist of the 2006 Australian Open and former world number eight from Cyprus, **[Markos Baghdatis](https://www.tennis.com/player/markos-baghdatis)**, shared his thoughts on which tennis player could challenge Spaniard **Carlos Alcaraz** and Italian **Jannik Sinner** for titles in Grand Slam events in the coming years.

“I would say possibly Fonseca. He’s one of the players who could, and I believe he will.

Apart from Fonseca, especially in a five-set match at a Grand Slam, I don’t see who else could stop Alcaraz and Sinner… Yes, maybe Alexander Zverev might win a match or two here and there. But it’s going to be tough,” Baghdatis stated, as reported by Tennis 365.

In the 2025 season, 19-year-old Fonseca achieved victories at the ATP 500 tournament in Basel, Switzerland, and the ATP 250 tournament in Buenos Aires.
