On Monday, operations at an electronics factory in the Chuvashia republic were temporarily halted after Ukrainian drones collided with the facility, according to local authorities.
“This morning, attempts by Ukraine to utilize drones over Chuvashia were detected,” regional leader Oleg Nikolayev announced on Telegram. “Fortunately, there were no casualties from the incident.”
As per Nikolayev, two drones crashed on the premises of the VNIIR plant, which is among Russia’s leading manufacturers of electronic components. Work was halted briefly “to ensure employee safety,” he noted.
He also mentioned that two additional drones went down in adjacent fields but did not threaten civilians. “The situation is completely managed,” he stated.
The VNIIR plant is situated on the southern side of Cheboksary, the regional capital, approximately 600 kilometers (373 miles) east of Moscow and 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) northeast of Ukraine’s border.
Videos captured by eyewitnesses during the drone attacks in Chuvashia displayed various unmanned aircraft crashing into what appeared to be the VNIIR plant in Cheboksary, followed by significant explosions. A considerable column of black smoke was visible rising from the facility.
Nationwide, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported the interception of 49 Ukrainian drones overnight.
In the meantime, Ukraine indicated that it had shot down numerous Russian drones over the western Rivne region. This prompted Poland to deploy fighter jets in reaction to the potential threat in its airspace, according to a statement from Warsaw’s Operational Command.
