A new bus service known as the Bakerloop is scheduled to begin this autumn, aiming to link various stations and neighborhoods in southeast London.
Transport for London (TfL) announced that the BL1 express bus will operate between Waterloo and Lewisham, forming part of the Superloop network’s expansion.
This bus route will follow the path of the proposed extension of the Bakerloo Tube line, incorporating key stops like Old Kent Road and Burgess Park.
Feedback on the BL1 route consultation, which wrapped up on 14 March, was largely favorable from both residents and local stakeholders, according to TfL.
To facilitate a more efficient and direct journey for the Bakerloop departing Lewisham, a bus stop initially proposed on Station Road toward Waterloo has been eliminated.
Brenda Dacres, Mayor of Lewisham, expressed her support, stating, “Lewisham is excited about the introduction of the Bakerloop bus and appreciates the mayor and TfL for addressing the long-standing transportation issues in southeast London. However, this is only the first step.”
A representative from TfL’s Public Transport Service Planning emphasized their commitment to monitoring bus services to ensure they align with local demand.
The BL1 will run from 05:00 to 00:30, operating every 12 minutes during the day from Monday to Saturday, and every 15 minutes in the evenings and on Sundays.
Additionally, TfL has announced plans for three more routes, with consultations on these new proposals expected to commence this autumn.
