A court has been informed that an 87-year-old man lost his life following an assault in a street in north London, reportedly over groceries.

John Mackey had purchased food and a newspaper from a Co-op store prior to stopping at a kebab shop on the afternoon of May 6, according to the preliminary hearing at the Old Bailey.

It is claimed that he was pursued in the street and attacked on Goodchild Road in Manor House. Emergency services were contacted around 5:53 PM BST, and Mr. Mackey was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed two days later.

Peter Augustine, 58, from Green Lanes in Hornsey, north London, was apprehended on May 8 and has been charged with murder and robbery.
