Rodninas Concerns: Have We Lost the Essence of Pairs Figure Skating to Entertainment?

Three-time Olympic champion and ten-time world champion in figure skating, as well as a member of the State Duma, **Irina Rodnina** expressed her dissatisfaction regarding the absence of pairs skating broadcasts on Channel One during the Russian Championship.

“We constantly rave about quadruple jumps performed by men and women, yet this time it quietly slipped by. I didn’t see any pairs competitions on Channel One during the tournament—even the dance segments were aired, but not the pairs. Considering our rich tradition in pairs skating… No other country has dominated in pairs for as long as we have. We’ve gotten too caught up in ‘Dancing on Ice’ and seem to have forgotten the difference between figure skating and entertainment,” Rodnina stated in an interview with TASS.

The champions of the pairs competition at the Russian Championship were **Alexandra Boikova** and Dmitry Kozlovsky.
