New Fees and Time Limits: Heathrow Airport Overhauls Drop-Off Policies to Combat Congestion

Heathrow Airport has revealed updates to its passenger drop-off procedures at the terminals, introducing increased fees and a time restriction for the first time.

Starting in January, the fee for terminal drop-offs will rise from £6 to £7, and passengers will be allocated 10 minutes in drop-off zones before a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) may be issued.

Individuals using the drop-off areas can opt to pre-pay either online or by phone, but they must do so before midnight of the following day to avoid an £80 penalty.

According to a representative from the airport, which holds the title of the busiest in the UK, these adjustments are intended to “enhance traffic flow and alleviate congestion.”

They continued, “This initiative helps minimize congestion, promotes the use of public transport, and allows our forecourts to be utilized as intended.”

Free drop-off and pick-up alternatives are still accessible at all terminals via our Park and Ride facilities.

Furthermore, they noted that 95% of drop-off visits to the terminals last less than 10 minutes.

In comparison, Gatwick, Luton, Stansted, and Southend airports impose a minimum charge of £7 for passenger drop-offs, while London City Airport does not charge for this service.
