India has called for “swift action” against unknown individuals who defaced a statue of Mahatma Gandhi, a renowned figure of independence, located in London.

The bronze statue, situated in Tavistock Square and unveiled for public viewing in 1968, was created to honor Gandhi’s time as a law student at University College London.

“The incident represents more than mere vandalism; it is a direct assault on the principle of non-violence,” stated the Indian High Commission in a message posted on X, labeling it as “shameful.”

Authorities in London have indicated they are investigating the reports concerning this incident, but as of now, have not pinpointed any suspects or groups involved.
