The scoring began on the eighth minute of the first period when Andrey Altybarmakyan found the back of the net. At the 16-minute mark, Rocco Grimaldi leveled the score. He then completed a double on the seventh minute of the second period, putting SKA ahead. Just before the end of the second period, Nikolai Goldobin extended the lead to 3-1. In the middle of the third period, Tomas Jurco narrowed the gap for Lada to just one goal. With 16 minutes gone in the same period, Egor Savikov scored SKA’s fourth goal. Less than a minute later, Andrey Chivilyov brought Lada within one at 4-3. With just a couple of minutes left in the game, Ivan Savchik tied things up. In overtime, Goldobin secured the win for SKA.

In their next Kontinental Hockey League match, SKA will face Metallurg away on January 10. Meanwhile, Lada will meet HC Sochi on January 9 in an away game.
