Gas Explosion Claims Life in Tver Amid Initial Drone Attack Confusion

A gas explosion in a residential building in Tver, Russia, resulted in one fatality early Tuesday, according to regional officials, who initially suggested it might have been caused by a Ukrainian drone strike.

“The initial assessment by experts indicates that the explosion was due to household gas,” stated Tver regional Governor Vitaly Korolev on Telegram.

He noted, “At first, it was thought that drone debris was responsible because defensive measures were underway in the area at that time.”

Incidents involving gas explosions and household fires occur frequently throughout Russia.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight in approximately 20 regions, six of which were over Tver.

In the previous month, debris from a Ukrainian drone caused a fire in an apartment building in Tver, located about 180 kilometers (110 miles) from Moscow, injuring seven individuals.
