Former World No. 2 Advises Alcaraz to Consider Skipping Madrid Masters Due to Injury

The former world number two and Grand Slam finalist, Spanish player Alex Corretja, shared his thoughts on the possibility of the world number three, Carlos Alcaraz, withdrawing from the Madrid Masters due to an injury he sustained during the final of the tournament in Barcelona against Danish player Holger Rune.

“He needs to use his head instead of his heart. Playing one or two matches in Madrid and then pulling out isn’t a viable option. Every tournament is crucial, and Madrid holds significant importance in the calendar, but if he feels he can go there with an injury, he should think it through carefully. If this were a tournament in Rome, would he rush things? I don’t think so. Therefore, just because it’s Madrid doesn’t mean he should proceed. This could lead to serious issues for him,” Corretja stated in an interview on the program El Larguero.

As a reminder, Alcaraz lost the final match in Barcelona, falling to Holger Rune with a score of 6-7, 2-6. During the match, the Spanish tennis player called for a physiotherapist due to discomfort in his right thigh adductor muscle.
