Fakel to Challenge Russian Football Unions Referee Decisions After Controversial Match Against Rubin

The press service of “Fakel” announced that they will be appealing to the RFU’s Disciplinary Committee following the conclusion of their match in the 26th round of the RPL against “Rubin”, which ended in a 2:1 victory for the Kazan side.

“The club intends to reach out to the Disciplinary Committee regarding referee Roman Safyan’s decision not to award a penalty kick to ‘Rubin’ during the match against Kazan on April 27. This concerns an incident in the 15th minute of the game when ‘Rubin’ player Dmitry Kabutov, while inside the penalty area, fouled Voronezh defender Igor Kalinin. The VAR team responded to this moment, and the main referee went to review the play on the monitor, but did not receive the video footage needed to assess the incident. The broadcast displayed a message stating: ‘The game is being conducted with limited VAR technical capabilities.’

Thirty minutes later, VAR was used after a foul by Nikita Motspan on Ruslan Bezrukov, resulting in the red card for ‘Fakel’s midfielder,” the press service of “Fakel” informed correspondent Ilya Nikulnikov from “Championship”.
