New train schedules and upgraded locomotives are set to be introduced for passengers in Kent and London.
Southeastern, which also operates services to East Sussex, announced that starting from May 18, a new timetable will be launched. The company aims for this update to facilitate additional growth and accommodate an extra 10 million customer journeys within the next year.
Scott Brightwell, Southeastern’s director of operations and safety, commented, “Our railway network is on the rise. The adjustments we’re making this May will provide more space where it’s most needed, along with newer, more comfortable air-conditioned trains.”
He also noted that efforts are underway to enhance punctuality and reliability, aiming to keep cancellations among the lowest nationwide.
Additional connections are being added for stations along the route from Ashford International and Maidstone East to Charing Cross, with increased stops at East Malling and Barming in the late afternoon and evening to meet rising demand.
Key peak services will feature more carriages, including the 05:46 service from Dover Priory to London Victoria, the 07:02 route from Ramsgate to Cannon Street, and the 07:50 train from Sevenoaks to Charing Cross.
In eastern Kent, Southeastern plans to add more stops at Thanet Parkway for trains traveling to and from Dover Priory to enhance connections to Canterbury West.
The May timetable will also see the introduction of longer trains over the summer, allowing for increased capacity for travelers heading to stations such as Whitstable, Margate, and Broadstairs.
The operator reported having facilitated over 135 million journeys in 2024, marking a 7% rise compared to 2023 and a 19% increase from 2022.
