Drone Attack in Belgorod Region Claims Life of Driver in Restricted Area

A man lost his life on Friday when a drone from Ukraine hit his vehicle in the Belgorod region of southwestern Russia, an area that has been designated a “no-go zone” for almost three years, according to official reports.

“A civilian was killed by a first-person view drone that impacted a car in the restricted village of Logachevka,” stated Vyacheslav Gladkov, the Governor of Belgorod, in a post on Telegram.

Gladkov informed that an emergency regime was established in and around the village in October 2022 due to the threat of Ukrainian cross-border shelling and drone strikes. Following the incident on Friday, he advised residents to steer clear of the vicinity.

These restrictions were implemented after a presidential decree from Vladimir Putin, which limited movement in Belgorod and seven other regions that border Ukraine, including the annexed territories of Crimea and Sevastopol.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Ukrainian forces have consistently carried out aerial assaults on Belgorod and adjacent areas.

In the previous week, Russian officials reported that at least 621 civilians have died as a result of Ukrainian attacks since the commencement of the full-scale invasion.
