Canadian Coach of Omsk Krylya: Friends Embrace My Move to Russia as an Exciting Challenge

The head coach of “Omskie Kryliya,” **[Louis Robitaille](https://www.example.com/tags/44052-lui-robitajl/)**, shared how his surroundings reacted to his move from Canada to Russia.

**”I’m curious about how your friends and colleagues in Canada responded, especially your former team’s manager, when you decided to go to Russia’s second league. It’s quite an unusual situation.”**
— “You know, I don’t see it as moving to the ‘second league.’ I’ve come here to work with Guy [Boucher], to be a part of the ‘Avangard’ system, to engage with a very strong organization. That’s how I perceive my role.”

My close friends weren’t shocked at all. They understand that I’m someone who thrives on challenges and adapts my life for those I love, embracing the opportunity for adventure and exploring new parts of the world. The most crucial element is the support from my wife and kids, their understanding of what’s at stake, and their agreement. I wouldn’t be here if my family had expressed any discomfort or hesitance.

For instance, they spent two months here and just recently returned home. They enjoyed it. So, for them, it was like, “Okay, Louis, this will be a great challenge and an exciting experience for you.” I was ready for that.

I spent nearly 12 years in the CHL, collaborated with Hockey Canada, and participated in numerous tournaments. However, it was essential for me to face a new challenge, to step into a different reality, and to work with a men’s team. That was a priority for me.

Everyone around me encouraged me, saying, “Go for it.” My family and close friends have been very supportive, and they are happy for me. You should see all the messages I’ve received from friends and relatives who want to visit. They see photos of my life here and what I’m doing, and many of them are eager to come. That’s wonderful,” Robitaille is quoted as saying by “VseProSport.”
