Authorities in the southwestern Belgorod region announced on Wednesday that shopping centers would close temporarily and school classes would shift to online formats due to Ukrainian drone assaults.
“Given the current operational circumstances, we’re halting the activities of large shopping malls for the time being,” Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov stated in a Telegram post.
Previously, Gladkov mentioned that a Ukrainian strike resulted in damage to a regional government building and a residential property, although there were no reported injuries.
In a related development, Russia’s Defense Ministry indicated that Ukraine launched 122 drones at the border area overnight, with 11 of them intercepted by air defense systems.
Later on Wednesday, Gladkov revealed that educational institutions would transition to remote learning for Thursday and Friday, while universities would determine individually whether to conduct classes in person or online.
This announcement came just before the governor reported that three individuals sustained injuries from drone strikes in the region.
Belgorod has experienced ongoing cross-border shelling since the onset of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, along with intermittent incursions by Ukrainian forces.
