Ukraine Steps Up Sanctions Against Putin’s Economic Envoy Kirill Dmitriev

Ukraine has placed Kirill Dmitriev, the economic envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, on its list of sanctioned individuals due to alleged crimes against the nation.

The Ukrainian presidential office announced on Sunday that the sanctions were imposed on Dmitriev for his role in “disseminating propaganda and soliciting Russian investments in vital sectors of foreign economies.”

Born in Kyiv, Dmitriev leads the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and participates in Russia’s negotiation teams with both the United States and Ukraine.

Last month, he traveled to the U.S. during a time when President Donald Trump was growing increasingly frustrated with Putin’s unwillingness to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine.

Responding to the sanctions imposed by Ukraine, Dmitriev made a sarcastic comment on Telegram, referring to the measures as one of two “awards” he had received over the weekend.

In addition to Dmitriev, the latest sanctions from Ukraine also affected fellow negotiator Alexander Zorin, along with Russia’s Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut, Deputy Education Minister Alexander Bugayev, and Deputy Science and Higher Education Minister Andrei Omelchuk.

According to a statement from Ukraine’s presidential office, the individuals targeted have “seized agricultural assets, grain resources, and cultural heritage sites, conducted informational operations against our state,” and implemented Russian educational programs with anti-Ukrainian narratives in occupied areas.

In a separate decree, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sanctioned five Russian publishing companies accused of promoting propaganda and backing the full-scale invasion.
