Local Pub Heist: 18th Century Violin Worth Over £150,000 Stolen, Police Seek Publics Help

A valuable violin from the 18th century, appraised at over £150,000, has been taken from a pub in north London, prompting police to seek assistance in identifying the culprits.

This string instrument, once owned by a member of the Philharmonia Orchestra in London, was reportedly stolen on the night of February 18 from The Marquess Tavern located on Canonbury Street in Islington.

The theft was brought to the attention of the Metropolitan Police by the 30-year-old owner that same evening.

PC Michael Collins described the violin as “incredibly precious,” noting that it was crafted in Florence in 1740 and held “priceless” sentimental value for its owner.

“We are diligently working to track down the suspect and are releasing this CCTV footage in hopes of identifying them quickly,” stated PC Collins. “We urge anyone with information to assist us in locating the individual responsible and in returning the violin to its rightful owner.”
