Tragic Incident: South London Pedestrian Killed by Responding Police Vehicle

A man in his thirties has lost his life after being struck by a police vehicle responding to an emergency in south London.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the incident occurred at 00:34 GMT on Borough High Street when the marked police car hit the pedestrian.

Officers provided immediate first aid, and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service arrived shortly thereafter, but unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police have notified the deceased’s family and are offering support through dedicated officers. The Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards, along with the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), has been made aware of the incident.

An IOPC representative stated that they were informed about the situation on Wednesday morning and commenced an independent investigation at approximately 04:20 GMT.

“We have dispatched investigators to the scene and the police’s post-incident procedures to start collecting evidence,” the spokesperson remarked.

The Metropolitan Police indicated that cordons have been established around Borough High Street, leading to disruptions in local traffic.
