Why Khamzat Chimaev Rejected Swedish Citizenship: Insights from Adam Zubayraev

Russian blogger **Adam Zubayraev** provided clarity on the decision made by UFC middleweight champion **Hamzat Chimaev** to renounce his Swedish citizenship, a country where he had been residing.

“Chimaev gave up his Swedish citizenship when it was about to be granted to him. He held a residence permit. Additionally, we should consider all the noteworthy events that occurred in Sweden, particularly the Quran burning incidents… Hamzat strongly opposed that. All of these factors combined played a role, along with high taxes,” Zubayraev stated in an interview with **Kamil Gadzhiev’s YouTube channel**.

Hamzat Chimaev is 31 years old and hails from the Chechen Republic. He made his UFC debut in 2020 and secured the middleweight championship title in August 2025 by defeating South African fighter Dricus du Plessis by unanimous decision. Overall, he has achieved nine victories in the organization.
