Unearthing History: London’s Blitz Tunnels to Host Groundbreaking Military Intelligence Exhibition

The historical journey of military intelligence will be presented as a component of an upcoming tourist attraction within the air raid shelter tunnels from World War Two in London.

As part of its initiative to open the Kingsway Exchange Tunnels to visitors, London Tunnels is partnering with the Museum of Military Intelligence to display a variety of original artifacts, equipment, weaponry, and documents.

Constructed in 1942 to offer safe refuge during the Blitz, approximately 8,000 square meters of tunnels beneath High Holborn later became the base for a British espionage organization.

Angus Murray, CEO of The London Tunnels, remarked that the site is a perfect setting to narrate the extraordinary tales of the individuals who were instrumental in safeguarding Britain.

These tunnels, which were referenced in the initial James Bond novel, have been inactive since their decommissioning in 1990.

The exhibition will highlight narratives from significant events such as the Battle of Britain, D-Day, Cold War espionage missions, the Falklands War, peacekeeping efforts, and the contemporary threats posed by terrorism.

General Sir Jim Hockenhull KBE ADC Gen, who serves as the Commander of Strategic Command and Colonel Commandant of the Intelligence Corps, expressed that it will be “the world’s most authoritative permanent display of military intelligence.”

The trustees of the Museum of Military Intelligence noted that this “historically significant and evocative location” will enhance the experience of the exhibition.

Established by the Intelligence Corps of the British Army, the Museum of Military Intelligence now also receives support from the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force.
