Ukrainian Drone Strike Hits High-Rise in Grozny, Near Kadyrovs Residence

A suspected drone strike from Ukraine caused damage to a high-rise building in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, early Friday morning, marking one of the nearest attacks to the residence of regional leader Ramzan Kadyrov, according to various media sources.

Footage shared on Telegram channels displayed broken windows and scorched areas on multiple floors of the 28-story Business Center Grozny-City.

This building is a part of Grozny City, a selection of skyscrapers created to represent Chechnya’s reconstruction after the war. It accommodates several regional government bodies, including the Chechen Security Council, as well as offices related to tourism and religious matters.

The tower is located approximately 830 meters (2,700 feet) from Kadyrov’s official residence in central Grozny, as reported by the investigative platform Agentstvo.

Early Friday, civil aviation authorities imposed temporary flight restrictions at airports in Grozny and various cities in surrounding regions.

Russia’s Defense Ministry did not include Chechnya among the areas where it claimed air defenses had intercepted Ukrainian drones overnight. Chechen officials have yet to comment on the alleged drone attack.

The authenticity of the videos and the involvement of a drone in the incident have not been verified by The Moscow Times.

If verified, this would mark the third reported drone strike in Chechnya within the week, following an attack on November 27 targeting a military facility in Grozny, and another strike on an FSB building on Tuesday.

In addition to incidents in Chechnya, overnight drone attacks from Ukraine were reported in several Russian regions.

In the southern Krasnodar region, a fire ignited at the Temryuk seaport, a key export facility for liquefied petroleum gas and oil products. In the Samara region, residents in the city of Syzran reported explosions occurring at a Rosneft oil refinery.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated that air defenses intercepted 41 drones across five regions, including annexed Crimea.
