Authorities in the Belgorod region of southwestern Russia reported that a local woman lost her life on Thursday due to a Ukrainian drone strike on her residence near the border.
According to Vyacheslav Gladkov, the Governor of Belgorod, “A woman was killed during an FPV drone attack on a private home in the village of Morkaya Orlovka.”
Mokraya Orlovka is situated just 3 kilometers (2 miles) east of the border with Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region.
The Russian Defense Ministry indicated that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed three Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod region prior to noon local time on Thursday.
Gladkov also mentioned that another civilian was killed in a Ukrainian drone strike on a village located deeper within the Belgorod region on Wednesday. Additionally, a second man perished that same day due to an explosive device that went off in a village near the Kharkiv region of eastern Ukraine, the governor noted.
He remarked that his region experienced a significant increase in Ukrainian attacks on Thursday.
The regions of Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk in western Russia have faced intense shelling, air strikes, and cross-border incidents since Moscow initiated its large-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
