A woman lost her life in a drone attack by Ukraine in the southwestern Belgorod region, as reported by local officials on Monday morning.
According to Belgorod region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, the unnamed woman was in a car with another woman in the town of Shebekino when the “targeted” drone strike occurred. The passenger who survived was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Shebekino, which is home to approximately 40,000 residents, is situated near the border with Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv area. Earlier that morning, a Ukrainian drone strike injured a bus driver in Shebekino, Gladkov added.
Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Shebekino and the surrounding Belgorodregion have frequently faced drone and missile attacks from Ukraine.
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, their air defense systems successfully intercepted one Ukrainian drone in the Belgorod region overnight, while an additional 34 drones were shot down in the annexed Crimea and Russia’s Bryansk region.
On Sunday, Ukraine alleged that Russia had launched a record 273 drones, resulting in the deaths of at least two individuals in Kyiv and the southern region of Kherson.
