The British government announced on Thursday the imposition of new sanctions on 24 individuals and entities associated with Russia, alleging their involvement in efforts to destabilize Ukraine and undermine its sovereignty.
These recent sanctions target six oil and gas companies, including Tatneft, Russneft, and NNK-Oil, along with seven trading companies and four chemical firms.
Tatneft stands out among those newly sanctioned, being the leading oil producer in Tatarstan, a significant oil-producing region in Russia.
Several companies affected by the sanctions are located in the United Arab Emirates, such as Saphira Energy and Gimli Trade, while at least five of the sanctioned trading and chemical companies are registered in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Additionally, five Russian individuals have been added to the sanction list, resulting in travel bans to the UK and the freezing of their assets.
On a related note, the European Union also imposed sanctions on Thursday against 41 further vessels believed to be part of Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” which is utilized to export oil in violation of Western sanctions, raising the total number of sanctioned ships to nearly 600.
