Tragic Incident: 15-Year-Old Boy Loses Life After Swimming in London Lake

A 15-year-old boy has tragically lost his life after encountering difficulties while swimming in a lake located in south-east London.

The Metropolitan Police reported that the teen’s body was retrieved from the water in Beckenham Place Park, situated in the Lewisham borough, around 10:40 PM BST on Friday night.

Police were alerted around 3:00 PM regarding the boy’s disappearance after he experienced trouble in the lake. In a statement released on Saturday, the Met mentioned that specialized diving units were deployed, along with personnel from the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade.

The identity of the boy has not yet been released, but he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased. His family has been notified of the situation.

Authorities from the Met are treating his death as “unexpected,” although they do not believe it to be suspicious.

Initially, the police indicated that the boy was 16 years old; however, they have since corrected this to confirm he was 15.

A spokesperson for Lewisham Council stated that while Beckenham Place Park has reopened, the lake remains closed with security measures in place “until further notice.”

The spokesperson expressed, “We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. We are collaborating closely with the police to ensure a thorough investigation reveals the complete circumstances surrounding this incident.”

In a separate event, 11-year-old Kaliyah Coa went missing in the River Thames on Monday, prompting the Met to launch a “recovery mission” to locate her.
