Tragedy Strikes: Russian Drone Attack Claims Lives of Ukrainian Family with Expecting Mother

A Russian drone strike targeted a village in Ukraine overnight, resulting in the deaths of two young boys and their parents, including a mother who was expecting twins, as reported by Ukrainian authorities.

In total, 65 drones were launched at Ukraine during the night, part of an ongoing series of assaults from Russia. Most of these drones were intercepted by air defense systems, according to officials from Ukraine.

The attack on Tuesday struck a two-story residential structure in the village of Chernechchyna, located in the northeastern Sumy region. It led to the loss of a couple and their children, aged four and six, as stated by Oleh Hryhorov, the head of the regional military administration.

The mother, who was carrying twins, was also among the casualties, according to the regional administration’s press service statement to AFP.

“This is not mere chaos of war, but a calculated decision: Russia targets homes, children, and the very survival of our nation,” commented Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko on social media.

An AFP journalist on the scene observed the remnants of the two-story building that had been demolished in the assault.

Other drones that managed to penetrate defenses during the night struck energy facilities in the northern Chernihiv region, resulting in power outages for over 26,000 households, as noted by the military administration leader.

In response to Moscow’s air strikes, Kyiv has stepped up its own operations targeting Russian supply lines and refineries.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have “intercepted and destroyed” 81 Ukrainian drones overnight, reporting no damage from the attacks.
