A man has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder following the death of an 87-year-old man, which occurred after an alleged robbery in north London.

According to a spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police, officers were dispatched to a report of a robbery at a residence on Goodchild Road in Manor House around 5:53 PM BST on Tuesday.

Upon arrival, they found the victim with severe injuries and he was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Unfortunately, he passed away on Thursday while receiving treatment.

A 59-year-old individual has been arrested on charges of murder and robbery and is currently being held in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers, who is heading the investigation, remarked, “This is a tragic situation that has resulted in the death of an innocent man. His family is receiving support from specialized officers.”

He added that the police are not seeking additional suspects in relation to the death, but encouraged anyone with information to reach out to law enforcement.

Chief Superintendent Brittany Clarke noted, “We understand that many individuals will feel unsettled by this event. Although we have one person in custody, we have increased local patrols for public reassurance.”

In addition to murder and robbery charges, the man in custody is also facing allegations of a racially aggravated public order offence and assaulting a police officer.
