Russian Official Pokes Fun at Viral Macron Video with Kremlin Quip

The spokesperson for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, ridiculed a viral video featuring French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte as they disembarked from a plane during their visit to Hanoi on Monday.

In her post on Telegram, Zakharova joked that Macron received “a right hook from his wife.” She speculated that the president’s aides would likely attempt to downplay the incident.

“Did the first lady try to cheer her husband up with a light tap on the cheek but misjudge her force? Was she trying to hand him a tissue but missed? Perhaps she aimed to adjust his collar and accidentally ended up touching his beloved face?” she suggested.

She further hinted, “Could it be that this was the ‘hand of the Kremlin’ at play?”

The video appears to show Macron turning his face away from his wife’s hand, which some might interpret as evidence of a disagreement between them.

Macron refuted claims of any “domestic dispute,” explaining that they were merely “joking as we often do” and added that other clips have been similarly misconstrued, including one suggesting he was seen sharing a bag of cocaine or confronting the Turkish president.

“None of this is accurate,” he declared, urging everyone to “calm down.”

The footage has been replayed extensively on Russian state television and circulated by accounts critical of the French president.

Previously, Zakharova had joined conspiracy theorist Alex Jones in mistakenly accusing Macron, along with his German and British counterparts, of using drugs on a train from Ukraine, after mistaking a crumpled tissue for cocaine in a low-quality video.

Despite the falsehood of these claims being later disproven, they nevertheless sparked a significant response from the Elysée Palace and the French Foreign Ministry.
