Russian-American Woman Detained for Allegedly Smuggling Firearm into Russia at Vnukovo Airport

Russian customs officials detained a woman with dual Russian-American citizenship at a Moscow airport, accusing her of trying to smuggle a firearm into the country, as reported on Friday.

The Federal Customs Service indicated that the woman was en route from the United States, stopping in Turkey, when she was intercepted at Vnukovo Airport during a routine check in the “green corridor,” an area designated for travelers declaring they have nothing to declare.

According to a statement posted on social media by the agency, “Customs officers at Vnukovo prevented the illegal importation of a pistol and a bank check totaling $138,000.”

Officials revealed that her luggage contained a Colt Commander .45 caliber pistol along with three empty magazines. The woman allegedly claimed she was not aware that she needed to declare these items.

Authorities have filed criminal charges against her for firearm smuggling, which is considered a serious violation of Russia’s stringent gun regulations.
