“I have to tip my hat to the Danish team. They had a solid game plan and stuck to it. There was no underestimating them on our part. We started strong, which is usually not the case if you underestimate an opponent. Strange things can happen in hockey; anything can occur in a single game. Surprises in sports happen every day,” MacKinnon said, according to Aftonbladet.
This marks the first time in 11 years that Canada has been eliminated in the quarterfinals of the World Championship. The North American team last faced such an early exit in 2014 when they lost 2-3 to Finland.
