Ministry of Education Denies Inclusion of Counter-Strike, FIFA, and Dota 2 in School Curriculum

On September 25, Russian Telegram channels reported that the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation had provisionally approved the inclusion of esports elements in the physical education curriculum. It was alleged that the ministry sent a proposal to the State Duma to combine traditional sports with esports in games such as Counter-Strike, FIFA (EA Sports FC), and Dota 2.

A few hours later, however, the Ministry of Education denied this information. In a statement to Russia Today, officials clarified that they had neither submitted nor received such a proposal in the State Duma. It appears that this idea did not actually originate from the officials.

Proposals to integrate esports projects into the school curriculum in Russia have been made by various agencies at least since 2019. At that time, the Internet Development Institute suggested teaching students about Dota 2, World of Tanks, and EA Sports FC.
