Five officers from the Metropolitan Police have been detained in connection with their management of a sexual assault allegation against a fellow officer.
According to Scotland Yard, the individuals were arrested on suspicion of various offenses, including obstructing justice, misconduct in a public office, and the inappropriate use of police authority.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) reported that 11 search warrants were executed at both the officers’ residences and police facilities on the day of the arrests.
Among the arrested, four are part of the Met’s North West Borough Command Unit, while one serves in the Directorate of Professional Standards.
Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams stated that the investigation focuses on how an internal inquiry into the sexual assault allegation against an officer was conducted.
He mentioned that the inquiry is being handled by the Met’s Anti-Corruption Command, under the oversight of the IOPC.
Williams noted, “We have maintained close cooperation with the anti-corruption investigation team throughout this process. I recognize that this situation may raise concerns among our staff and the community, but it’s crucial that we refrain from making further comments that could compromise any subsequent legal actions.”
In addition to the criminal allegations, the officers are also facing inquiries related to potential gross misconduct, as indicated by the IOPC.
