Emergency services in Kyiv announced on Wednesday that the death toll from a Russian airstrike the day before has increased to 28, with over 130 individuals reported injured.
Early on Tuesday, Russia unleashed numerous drones and missiles on Kyiv, which President Volodymyr Zelensky described as “one of the most devastating assaults” on the city since the onset of the full-scale invasion by the Kremlin.
“At this moment, 28 residents of Kyiv have been confirmed deceased. Rescue teams are still on the scene of the destruction,” stated Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko through social media.
The state emergency services corroborated this figure, indicating that 23 of the fatalities occurred in a single nine-story residential building.
Zelensky mentioned that Russia deployed 440 drones and 32 missiles in strikes across the country and called upon the international community not to “ignore” the situation.
In contrast, Russia’s Defense Ministry asserted that it executed “precision attacks” targeting military installations in the Kyiv area.
Despite ongoing peace negotiations and U.S. efforts to facilitate an end to the conflict, Moscow has intensified its strikes on Ukraine in recent weeks.
