The 70th-ranked American tennis player, Katy Volynets, advanced to the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid, Spain. In her opening match, she defeated two-time Grand Slam champion from the Czech Republic, Petra Kvitova, with a score of 6-4, 6-0.
