Former Manchester United and Russia national team player Andrey Kanchelskis discussed his visit to the club’s training facility in Carrington, as well as his impressions of a trip to Everton’s training ground.
“I visited not only Manchester’s base but also Everton’s. Everything has changed, of course! Our old training ground had just one and a half pitches — one artificial and the rest natural for the goalkeepers. Now there are 15 pitches, an academy, a covered training area, a swimming pool, and a cafeteria for all the teams. What can I say? It’s fantastic! All you need to do is play football. Times are changing, and that’s a good thing. The pitches are in perfect condition — just like those at Old Trafford, ensuring there’s no difference. There’s a gym and everything necessary for recovery, including a pool. The only thing lacking is the results that fans expect.
Initially, we arranged to visit Everton. I observed their training process and attended their match. They have a stunning new stadium that holds 55,000 spectators. Later, we watched Manchester’s match. We had discussions with Everton’s fans and coaches, and then I invited Manchester to join us. However, we didn’t get to see the entire training session — the coach preferred that we not witness their tactical exercises. But that’s his decision. The main thing is that they can surprise other teams with their tactics in upcoming matches,” Kanchelskis told Championship correspondent Maria Kutsubeeva.
