International Leaders Set to Assemble for Moscows Grand Victory Day Military Parade

The Kremlin announced on Tuesday that 29 international leaders are set to participate in the Victory Day military parade in Moscow later this week.

Notable attendees include Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, as stated by Yuri Ushakov, a foreign policy advisor to the Kremlin. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico will represent Europe as the sole European leaders at the parade scheduled for May 9.

Other confirmed participants comprise leaders from Indonesia, Burkina Faso, Bosnia, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Iraq, Congo, Myanmar, Cuba, Ethiopia, and Equatorial Guinea, in addition to Russia’s traditional allies from Central Asia.

Leaders from Armenia and Azerbaijan are also expected to attend, along with the heads of South Ossetia and Abkhazia—regions in Georgia that are pro-Russian and not recognized as independent by the international community.

There has been growing speculation about the grandeur of this year’s parade, which Moscow claims will be the most impressive to date. The event marks the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II and has gained renewed significance as the Kremlin seeks to bolster public support for its ongoing conflict with Ukraine.

Ushakov noted that troops from 13 foreign nations, including China, Egypt, Vietnam, Myanmar, and several former Soviet republics, will participate in the march across Red Square during the May 9 festivities.

Ukrainian officials have cautioned foreign troops against involvement, asserting that marching alongside Russian forces would imply a shared responsibility for the ongoing war.
