Holloway Calls Out Topuria for Claiming BMF Title, Citing Islam Makhachev as an Example

The 33-year-old holder of the BMF title, American **Max Holloway**, criticized the 28-year-old undefeated UFC lightweight champion, the Spanish-Georgian **Ilia Topuria**, for possessing a title he does not genuinely own.

“[Before our first fight], the UFC decided that the BMF title wouldn’t be on the line, so what he’s doing now doesn’t make any sense. Have you ever seen Islam walking around with a second belt after beating Volkanovski twice? Did you ever see him doing that? The title wasn’t at stake, so just accept that. Why did you spend money on this fake title? It’s quite absurd. I know you’re rich, but that’s just a pointless waste of money,” Holloway remarked at the post-UFC 318 press conference.
