In a north London borough, gatherings of unauthorized vehicles will face a continued prohibition for another year following an extension of a High Court injunction.
Enfield Council stated that this order against car cruising “prevents individuals from assembling to engage in, promote, or organize motor racing, stunts, or other hazardous driving behaviors on the public highways and spaces of Enfield.”
The review set for December 2025 grants additional powers to both law enforcement and the local council to address antisocial conduct associated with these gatherings.
Councillor Gina Needs, who oversees community cohesion and enforcement, noted that this is “one of several initiatives we are implementing to combat excessive speeding, noise pollution, and risky driving.”
She remarked, “Our evidence shows that this injunction positively influences road safety and enhances community welfare.”
The council emphasized that since its implementation in December 2024, it has successfully demonstrated to the High Court “the injection’s effectiveness in curbing dangerous driving, mitigating noise pollution, and safeguarding residents, businesses, and visitors.”
Furthermore, they indicated that individuals who violate the injunction could face arrest, financial penalties, and, in severe instances, imprisonment.
