Passengers traveling on the London Overground should anticipate disruptions during the holiday season due to essential track replacement activities.
Between December 27 and January 4, train services on the Mildmay line will be suspended between Camden Road and Richmond/Shepherd’s Bush. However, a special service will be available running from Willesden Junction to Stratford, with a route through Queen’s Park.
On Boxing Day, only a shuttle service will operate between Shepherd’s Bush and Clapham Junction.
Simon Milburn of Network Rail Anglia expressed regret over the inconvenience, stating, “This is a significant undertaking that will ultimately have a beneficial effect for passengers in the future.”
The project involves replacing 10 sets of points, which are the moveable track segments that enable trains to switch lines. According to Network Rail, the existing points are in poor condition and are being supported by aging timber sleepers.
Further disruptions are expected during the weekends of January 10-11, January 31 to February 1, and February 14-15 to finalize the installation after the new track has settled properly.
Replacement bus services will be available throughout the duration of the engineering works.
Mr. Milburn noted, “The busy Mildmay line also accommodates regular heavy freight trains, which increases wear and tear on the track compared to other sections of the network. We are putting in place durable new tracks that are designed to last for many years.”
