Fluerys Comeback: Why the Retired Goalie Chose to Represent Canada at the 2025 World Championship

The 40-year-old goalie Marc-Andre Fleury shared his reasons for choosing to represent Canada in the 2025 World Championship.

“I returned home, my kids were ecstatic, and I thought to myself: ‘I need to keep playing,'” Fleury told journalist Jessi Pierce on her social media platform, X.

It is worth noting that the goalie has not yet participated in any world championships.

For reference, Marc-Andre Fleury is an Olympic champion from 2010 with the Canadian team and a three-time Stanley Cup winner with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He ranks second in NHL history for the most wins by a goalie in regular-season play (575), trailing only the legendary Martin Brodeur (691).
