German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated on Sunday that he, along with the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, and Poland, intends to communicate with Donald Trump before the U.S. president’s scheduled call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.
Merz mentioned that he had conversations with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during the inaugural mass of Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican. He also noted that he had an extensive discussion with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky while there.
“I talked with Marco Rubio, particularly regarding tomorrow’s call. We reached an agreement to confer again with the four national leaders and the U.S. president in preparation for this discussion (with Putin),” Merz conveyed to the press.
