Downing Street Defends Sadiq Khan as Starmer Denounces Trumps Disgusting Comments

Sir Keir Starmer has expressed that Donald Trump’s criticism of Sir Sadiq Khan is “inaccurate,” according to statements made by Downing Street, as the Prime Minister faced pressure to address the remarks made by the US president.

Number 10’s defense of the Labour mayor of London came just a day after it refrained from condemning Trump’s attack on Khan.

In a recent interview with Politico, Trump revived his ongoing feud with Sir Sadiq, labeling the UK mayor a “disaster” and “disgusting.”

On Wednesday, the Prime Minister’s press secretary stated to reporters, “Those comments are incorrect.”

They continued, “The mayor of London is excelling in his role, implementing free school meals in primary education, improving air quality with the world’s largest clean air zone, and initiating record numbers of council housing projects.”

“The Prime Minister takes great pride in the accomplishments of the mayor of London and considers him both a colleague and a friend.”

Trump also claimed in the interview that Sir Sadiq was elected “because so many people have come in.”

In reaction to Trump’s statements, Sir Sadiq told Politico on Tuesday that the president seemed “fixated” on him, adding that “record numbers of Americans” were relocating to London due to the city’s liberal principles standing in direct opposition to Trump’s values.

“I believe it is for President Trump to clarify what he means by those comments,” he remarked, expressing bafflement over the reason behind Trump’s “fixation” on London’s governance.

During Prime Minister’s Questions, Sir Keir was urged to advise the American leader against interfering in European affairs.

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey emphasized that the Prime Minister should inform Trump that “any attempts to disrupt our democratic process are completely unacceptable,” especially in the context of America’s new security strategy.
