Diplomatic Efforts in Miami Yield No Major Progress on Ukraine Conflict

On Sunday, officials from the U.S. and Ukraine commented that discussions held in Miami had been “productive and constructive,” although no significant progress was reported in the quest to resolve the ongoing conflict with Russia.

High-ranking representatives from Ukraine and Russia, along with European allies of Kyiv, have spent several days engaged in separate meetings facilitated by Steve Witkoff, the special envoy appointed by President Trump. These discussions are part of a diplomatic initiative that has been underway for several weeks, following the introduction of a 28-point proposal from the U.S. last month, which many perceived as aligning with the demands of the Kremlin.

The proposal has since been modified in collaboration with Ukraine and European nations, but its specific details remain undisclosed.

In social media updates, Witkoff and Ukraine’s lead negotiator Rustem Umerov indicated that the Ukrainian delegation had undertaken a number of discussions with American and European officials aimed at harmonizing positions on various documents, including a revised 20-point agenda, frameworks for security guarantees, and plans for economic recovery.

They noted that the conversations highlighted important timelines and the order of subsequent actions, yet did not specify any future meetings.

Statements revealed that national security advisers from several European nations also participated in the discussions, working to create a unified approach among Ukraine, the U.S., and Europe.

Additionally, Russian economic envoy Kirill Dmitriev was present in Florida and held separate dialogues with the American delegation, which included Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law. Witkoff also referred to these talks as “productive and constructive.”

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov mentioned that Dmitriev would provide feedback to Moscow regarding his conversations with American and European officials.
