A heartfelt homage has been paid to the “highly regarded” refuse collector who lost his life in a triple stabbing incident in west London on Monday.

Wayne Broadhurst, aged 49, was out walking his dog at around 17:00 GMT when he was critically injured in Midhurst Gardens, Uxbridge.

Another man, 45, sustained life-altering injuries and was rushed to the hospital, reportedly due to the intervention of his neighbors. Additionally, a 14-year-old boy was also hurt, according to police reports.

A 22-year-old Afghan man was subdued with a Taser and arrested at the scene. The Metropolitan Police stated he is being detained on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Authorities do not consider the incident to be an act of terrorism, and detectives are investigating the possible connections between the suspect and the three victims.

On Wednesday, Katarina Pohancenikova, the managing director of Greener Ealing Ltd, expressed her sorrow, saying, “We are deeply saddened to announce that one of our team members, Wayne Broadhurst, tragically lost his life following the incident in Uxbridge on Monday evening.

“We extend our thoughts and heartfelt condolences to Wayne’s family, friends, and colleagues during this extremely challenging time.

“This is a tragic loss. Wayne was a well-respected and committed part of our workforce who genuinely contributed to both our mission and the residents we serve.

“We kindly ask that Wayne’s family is granted privacy as they navigate through this distressing news.”

Concerning the 45-year-old victim from the attack, a neighbor commented that without immediate assistance from his neighbors, “he might not have survived.”

Tahira Hassan, who resides adjacent to the crime scene, recounted how a bloodied teenager knocked on her door pleading for help around 17:00 GMT on Monday.

Upon her husband’s opening of the door, several residents from across the street emerged wielding baseball bats to shield the injured man.

Mrs. Hassan explained, “The injured individual was sitting at the front of their home, surrounded by four or five neighbors who were protecting him. Their actions saved his life. They did an admirable job. He could have perished if they hadn’t intervened.”

Mrs. Hassan, in her 40s, noted that the wounded man has a spouse and children and resides on Midhurst Gardens.

She described the assailant, who she had never encountered before, as being tall, slender, wearing a black jacket, and holding a “knife in his hand.”

When the attacker noticed someone walking a dog, she said, he “immediately lunged at him… repeatedly.”

While the neighbors who assisted the victim were approached for comments, they chose to remain silent.

Another local resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, reported witnessing the incident from her window after hearing screams.

She mentioned that her brother was on the phone with law enforcement while the act was occurring and they saw Mr. Broadhurst exit an alley into the street.

“He walked out from the alleyway completely unaware of what awaited him,” she recalled.

“As soon as he reached the front of a house, the man with the knife shoved him down right in front of us, then pinned him down.”

“We were on the phone with the police at that moment, informing them that this was taking place right in front of us, urging them to respond quickly.”

Afterward, she noted, the assailant fled down the street.

The Home Office confirmed that the suspect entered the UK via a lorry in November 2020, received asylum and permission to stay in 2022, and does not reside in governmental accommodation.

A representative from the Home Office offered condolences to those affected by this “horrific incident” and stated they are being kept updated by the Metropolitan Police as investigations proceed.

“The main priority now is for the police to conduct a thorough investigation to bring those accountable to justice,” they added.

On Tuesday evening, nearly 100 individuals gathered for a minute of silence at the cordoned-off area surrounding the incident site.

They applauded at the conclusion of the vigil and gradually began to disperse.

A considerable group of men, women, and children left flowers at the intersection of Midhurst Gardens and Leybourne Road, with some lighting candles in tribute.

Chief Superintendent Jill Horsfall characterized the attack as a “shocking and senseless act of violence.”

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victim during this unimaginably tough time,” she stated.

She continued, “This incident has understandably raised concerns in the local community. I have dispatched additional officers to the area, who will remain stationed here throughout the week to offer reassurance while detectives work diligently to gather all relevant information.”

“I recognize there has been considerable speculation online in the wake of this incident. We urge the public to depend on us for accurate updates and to refrain from sharing sensitive footage.”

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the family of the deceased has been informed and is receiving support from specially trained officers.
