Community in Shock as Beloved Father, 62, Dies Following Violent Assault in Southwark

A murder inquiry has been initiated following the assault of a 62-year-old man in south-east London, who succumbed to his injuries two days later in a hospital.

Michael Burrows, a resident of Lambeth, was discovered with a head injury on Maddock Way in Southwark at 1:15 PM GMT on November 20. The Metropolitan Police confirmed he passed away in the hospital on Saturday.

In a heartfelt statement, Mr. Burrows’ family described him as a “humorous, charming, and dedicated gentleman with a heart of gold.”

No arrests have yet been made in connection to the case.

The family expressed their grief, stating, “We are profoundly saddened by the loss of our beloved father; our hearts are shattered.”

He was the cornerstone of our family, embodying commitment and resilience as a truly loving and devoted father and grandfather.

“He had an incredible ability to brighten up any room, and he will be eternally cherished and missed by those who knew him,” they added.

“We love you, Dad. May the angels keep watch over you.”

Detective Chief Inspector David Whellams remarked that Mr. Burrows fell victim to a “senseless and appalling act of violence.”

“I understand the anxiety this incident may generate within the community, and a specialized homicide unit is diligently working to uncover the events of that evening,” he stated.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is urged to reach out to the police. Any details you can provide would be greatly appreciated.”
