Brents Roe Green Park Set to Shine with Unique Non-Religious Gujarati Festival: A Celebration of Culture, Joy, and Community

A park in North London is gearing up to host “the only secular Indian event” following the approval of a three-day festival dedicated to celebrating Gujarati culture.

Brent Council has granted a license for the Rangeelu Gujarat festival to occur at Roe Green Park in Kingsbury from Friday, September 5 to Sunday, September 7.

Concerns had been voiced by some residents regarding potential noise disruptions to the nearby Kingsbury High School. In response, the festival’s organizers, Red Lotus Events, have complied with licensing conditions outlined by the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Performances will commence later on Friday in order to minimize disturbance to students, and sound levels will be kept below a specified limit of 65 decibels.

Mira Salat, the festival’s creative director, acknowledged the concerns of local residents who might experience some inconvenience but emphasized that the three-day event would ultimately bring significantly more joy.

Brent boasts the largest Gujarati community in London, with many borough residents identifying as Gujarati. However, Ms. Salat noted a “persistence of misunderstanding within the community regarding their cultural identity.”

She stated, “There is nothing else like this; no Indian festival exists that is not rooted in religion.”

“This is the only non-religious Indian event accessible to individuals from various backgrounds.”

The festival will feature a stage for musical, dance, and comedy acts, along with a variety of stalls offering vegetarian cuisine, art, and crafts from different regions.

In addition to rigorous noise regulations, the Brent Alcohol and Entertainment Licensing Sub-Committee imposed a further requirement that a representative will be available at all times to address any resident concerns.

There will be 50 security personnel present throughout the event, comprising 20 security officers and 30 stewards.
