Former CSKA Moscow midfielder and Russian national team player Alan Dzagoev has provided an update on the health of his former teammate Evgeny Aldonin, who is continuing his battle with cancer.

“We last spoke with Zhenya about two or three weeks ago. He shared updates about his condition — he’s doing well. I’m hopeful that everything will turn out alright and we will see Evgeny not only on the padel courts but also playing football. He is quite determined in that regard. We are supporting him in every possible way. The timeline for his return to Russia is unclear — he’s intentionally avoiding frequent travel. His immune system needs to be strong,” Dzagoev’s comments were reported by “RIA Novosti Sport.”

Earlier reports revealed that Aldonin has been diagnosed with a cancerous condition, which requires long-term and expensive treatment in Germany.

While at CSKA, Aldonin won the UEFA Cup, was a two-time champion of Russia, and claimed the national cup five times. He also represented the Russian national team in 29 matches.
